Red Oak Community School Attendees: Ron Lorenz, Leanne Fluckey, Heidi Harris, Nate Perrien, Jane Chaillie, Bret Blackman, Pastor Ricky Rohrig, Bryce Johnson, Scott Bruce, and Kelly Carlson-Osheim.
The Work Session of the Board of Directors of the Red Oak Community School District was called to order by President Blackman at 5:34 p.m. at the Red Oak Junior Senior High School Virtual Classroom.
Open Meetings Records Meeting Law and Public Records Training
Anna Harmon and David Hoth from IASB (Iowa Association of School Boards) presented a 90-minute required open meetings and public records course for newly elected officials. The training highlighted Iowa Code 21 and 22 providing guidance, compliance, and statutory obligations required of board members.
Board Orientation Workshop
Lou Gvist with IASB (Iowa Association of School Boards) presented the foundational elements of effective governance for board members and superintendents designed to strengthen and unify the board/superintendent unit. Lou also highlighted hard conversations that board members may be presented with and how to effectively answer questions from the public while following the chain of command within the set guidelines of the school district.
