The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Red Oak Community School District was called to order by Vice President Scott Bruce at 5:43 p.m. at the Red Oak Junior Senior High School Virtual Classroom.
Present Directors: Kelly Carlson-Osheim, Scott Bruce, Pastor Ricky Rohrig (virtually), and Bret Blackman (arrived virtually at 5:54 p.m.). Superintendent Ron Lorenz, Board Secretary Leanne Fluckey Approval of Agenda Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve the agenda with order at the discretion of the chair. Motion carried unanimously. Good News Mr. Lorenz presented good news for the district. Visitors and Presentations None Consent Agenda Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve the consent agenda as presented including meeting minutes, monthly business reports, personnel considerations, contract renewals and service agreements, and open enrollment for Stellar Oaks Virtual Academy. Motion carried unanimously. Early Retirement Policy Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve second reading of Board Policy 401.7 (Early Retirement). Motion carried unanimously. Early Graduation Policy Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve second reading of Board Policy 506.6 (Early Graduation). Motion carried unanimously. Student Conduct and Disruptive Behaviors Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve the first reading of Board Policies 503.1 and 503.7 (Student Conduct and Disruptive Behaviors) and waive the second reading of Board Policy 503.1 (Student Conduct and Disruptive Behaviors). Motion carried unanimously. Student Activity Program and Participation Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve the first reading and waive the second reading of Board Policy 505.6 and 505.6R2 (Student Activity Program and Eighth Grade Participation in High School Activities Regulation). Motion carried unanimously. Technology Adoption Checklist The Board acknowledged a typographical error in the parenthetical description of Policy 605.4 as “Student Activity Program” rather than “Technology.” The policy number was correct, therefore the Board took action. A motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to waive subsequent readings and approve the first reading of Board Policy 605.4 and 605.4E1 (Technology and One-to-One Digital Device Program Technology Checklist). Motion carried unanimously. Lease Agreement with Mongomery County Child Development Association Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve re-authorization and revisions of the lease agreement with Montgomery County Child Development Association. Motion carried unanimously. Updated Camera/GPS Equipment for Existing Fleet Vehicles Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Rohrig to approve the purchase of updated camera/GPS equipment for existing fleet vehicles not to exceed $15,000. Motion carried unanimously. Stellar Oaks Virtual Academy Student Handbook Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Blackman to approve the 2026-2027 Stellar Oaks Virtual Academy Student Handbook. Motion carried unanimously. Resolution to Transfer Funds Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, seconded by Director Blackman to approve resolution to transfer $3,591.61 from the General Fund to the Activities Fund during the 2027 fiscal year to purchase and refurbish protective and safety equipment (i.e. football helmets) in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 289A.8. Motion carried unanimously. Adjournment Motion by Director Carlson-Osheim, second by Director Rohrig to adjourn the meeting at 6:26 p.m. Motion carried, 3-0. Blackman abstained.
