The regular board meeting of the Board of Directors of the Red Oak Community School District was called to order by Vice President Scott Bruce at 5:30 p.m. at the Red Oak Junior Senior High School Virtual Classroom.

Present

Directors: Bryce Johnson, Scott Bruce, Pastor Ricky Rohrig, Kelly Carlson-Osheim (remote)

Superintendent Ron Lorenz, Board Secretary/Business Manager, Heidi Harris

Approval of Agenda

Motion by Director Johnson, second by Director Rohrig to approve the agenda with the order of agenda items at the discretion of the meeting chair.  Motion carried unanimously.

Public Hearing of Proposed FY2027 Proposed Tax Notice

Vice President Scott Bruce opened the public hearing on the proposed FY2026 Budget Amendment at 5:34 p.m. Superintendent Ron Lorenz explained the need to amend the current year’s budget due to rising costs, unforeseen expenses, and the need to stay in compliance with the Iowa Department of Management. There were no public comments.  The public hearing was closed at 5:37 p.m.

Good News

Superintendent Ron Lorenz presented the Red Oak Community School District’s good news.

Visitors and Presentations

Jr/Sr High School Principal, Nate Perrien, Jr/Sr High School Counselor, Kelsey Mangold, and Inman Counselor, Amy McClintock presented the State results from last year’s DCAP (District Career and Academic Plan) and the proposed plan for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

Heidi Harris presented an overview of the proposed FY2027 budget, what revenues and expenses are included, how the budget is calculated, and what funds are involved, along with the proposed FY2027 tax levy (rate) for the April 28, 2026, Special Board Meeting.

Consent Agenda

Motion by Director Johnson, second by Director Rohrig to approve the consent agenda as presented including meeting minutes, business reports, contract renewals, personnel considerations, Interscholastic Activity sharing agreement for Boys’ and Girls’ golf, soccer, and tennis with Stanton CSD, and the District’s dental insurance renewal.  Motion carried unanimously.

Waiving of Athletic Ineligibility Due to Open Enrollment

Motion by Director Johnson, second by Director Carlson-Osheim to waive ineligibility period due to open enrollment for an incoming student.  Motion carried unanimously.

FY2026 Certified Budget Amendment

Motion by Director Rohrig, second by Director Carlson-Osheim to approve the FY2026 Budget Amendment.  Motion carried unanimously.

District Career and Academic Plan for the 2026-2027 School Year

Motion by Director Rohrig, second by Director Johnson, to approve the 2026-2027 District Career and Academic Plan (DCAP).  Motion carried unanimously.

2026-2027 High School Course Handbook

Motion by Director Johnson, second by Director Carlson-Osheim to approve the 2026-2027 Jr/Sr High School Course Handbook.  Motion carried unanimously.

Adjournment

Motion by Director Johnson, second by Director Rohrig, to adjourn the regular meeting at 6:54 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
